In a late-night operation on Sunday, the Sadat police in Ghazipur district arrested an alleged cattle smuggler, Suraj Yadav, following an exchange of fire. Apart from registering cases of cattle smuggling against him, the police also booked him under the Gangster Act.
Details of the Incident
According to Ghazipur CO (Saidpur) Ramkrishna Tiwari, acting on a tip-off about the movement of criminals, a police team from Sadat police station cordoned off Khidirganj crossing and began checking passers-by late on Sunday night. During the checking drive, the police noticed a motorcycle rider trying to evade them and escape. When the cops attempted to chase him, the rider opened fire on the police team, said the CO.
The police team pursued him, and during retaliatory firing, the miscreant sustained a bullet injury in the leg while trying to enter a field near Rampur Itwa after firing at the police. The police seized a firearm, a cartridge, and the motorcycle, and rushed him to the hospital.
Identification and Background
The injured criminal was identified as Suraj Yadav alias Nagendra of Khidirgunj. He was wanted in cases lodged under sections of the Cow Slaughter Prevention Act, and a cash reward of Rs 25,000 had been announced for his arrest.
The police have registered multiple cases against him, and further investigation is underway.
