Gujarat Chief Minister Issues Directives for District-Level Review
In a significant move to strengthen governance at the grassroots level, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has issued clear instructions to all cabinet ministers to complete comprehensive tours of their assigned districts by November 30, 2025. The directive came during the weekly cabinet meeting held in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.
Senior minister and government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani addressed media personnel following the meeting, outlining the Chief Minister's expectations. Each minister has been appointed as Prabhari (in-charge) of specific districts and must now conduct thorough reviews of ongoing development projects and infrastructure conditions within these regions.
Comprehensive District Assessment Mandated
The Chief Minister has emphasized the importance of hands-on supervision by requiring ministers to personally assess the progress of special projects in their designated districts. The instruction includes conducting follow-up actions to ensure timely completion of all government initiatives.
Additionally, ministers have been directed to hold meetings with district officials to specifically review the condition of roads throughout their assigned regions. The comprehensive assessment must conclude with detailed reports submitted directly to the Chief Minister's office following the November 30 deadline.
Quality Control and Accountability Measures
In a strong message about maintaining infrastructure standards, Chief Minister Patel has instructed ministers to ensure there is no compromise in road quality through necessary supervision. The official release quoted Vaghani stating, "He has given instructions to ensure that there is no compromise in quality of roads through necessary supervision and to take strict action against concerned persons if poor quality is discovered anywhere."
This zero-tolerance approach toward substandard work reflects the government's commitment to quality infrastructure development across Gujarat.
Weekly Public Engagement Protocol Established
Beyond the district tour requirements, the Chief Minister has institutionalized a systematic approach to public engagement. All ministers must compulsorily reserve every Monday and Tuesday to listen to representations from citizens and their elected representatives while stationed in their respective offices.
The directive includes avoiding scheduling other meetings on these designated days to ensure undivided attention to public concerns. However, the protocol allows for exceptions in unavoidable circumstances, provided the Chief Minister is formally notified about the absence.
Broader Development Objectives
The district review initiative aligns with larger development goals for the state. Vaghani revealed that the Chief Minister has also directed officials to actively work toward ensuring Gujarat maintains alignment with national and global standards on key development parameters.
Specific focus areas include improving indicators such as infant mortality rate (IMR) and maternal mortality rate (MMR), reflecting the government's comprehensive approach to development that encompasses both infrastructure and social welfare metrics.
The coordinated effort between ministers and district administration aims to create a more responsive governance structure while accelerating development projects across Gujarat's diverse regions.
