Panic spread in Pathakaraka village under Uldan police station limits in Jhansi district after the half-burnt body of an unidentified woman was discovered near a drain on Friday morning. Police suspect that the woman may have been murdered and later set on fire during the previous night in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Discovery of the Body
According to information, the incident came to light on Friday morning when a farmer reached his field and noticed the partially burnt body lying near Mate Ke Khirk area. He immediately informed villagers, following which a crowd gathered at the spot and police were alerted.
Police Investigation Underway
A police team from Uldan police station reached the scene and initiated an investigation. Police recovered a liquor bottle, a scarf, anklet, slippers and parts of a mobile phone from near the body. The condition of the spot has strengthened suspicions that the woman was either burnt alive or her body was set ablaze after the murder before the accused fled from the scene.
SP City Preeti Singh, who also reached the murder site, stated that the woman appears to be married and between 35 and 45 years of age. However, she could not be identified. "A case has been lodged against an unidentified person and we are investigating. I have constituted two teams to crack the case. We checked, there was no complaint of any missing woman in the nearby area," Singh said.
Police are examining the recovered items and conducting door-to-door inquiries in nearby villages. The body has been sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities have urged the public to come forward with any information that may help identify the victim or the perpetrators.
