Engineers across Haryana staged a two-hour protest on Tuesday, expressing strong opposition to the transfer of a Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO). The demonstration, which took place at various locations throughout the state, saw a large turnout of engineering professionals who demanded an immediate rollback of the transfer order.
Protest Details
The protest was organized by the Haryana Engineers Association, which represents a significant number of government engineers in the state. Members gathered at district headquarters and other key locations, holding placards and raising slogans against the decision. The peaceful protest lasted from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., disrupting normal work but without any reported incidents of violence.
Demands of the Engineers
The primary demand of the protesting engineers was the cancellation of the transfer of an SDO, whom they claimed was being moved arbitrarily. They argued that the transfer was politically motivated and violated established norms and procedures. The engineers also called for a transparent and fair transfer policy that would protect employees from undue influence.
Association's Statement
Speaking on behalf of the association, a senior engineer stated, "The transfer of our colleague is unjust and sets a dangerous precedent. We will continue our agitation until the order is revoked." The association has threatened to escalate the protest if their demands are not met within a week, including possible strikes and work stoppages.
Government Response
As of now, the state government has not issued an official response to the protest. However, sources indicate that senior officials are reviewing the matter and may consider the engineers' demands. The protest highlights ongoing tensions between government employees and administrative decisions in Haryana.
