Haryana Minister Anil Vij Announces Major Urban Expansion Plan for Ambala Cantonment

Haryana Minister Anil Vij has unveiled a significant urban expansion initiative for Ambala Cantonment, marking a pivotal step towards transforming the area into a metropolitan hub. The plan involves the development of seven new sectors under the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), aimed at substantially increasing the city's footprint and enhancing residential and civic infrastructure.

Details of the Expansion Plan

The expansion will cover approximately 1,000 acres across the Ambala Cantt constituency and several adjoining villages, including Ghasitpur, Buhawa, Shahpur, Brahman Majra, Kardhan, Sarsehri, Chandpura, Machhonda, Ugada, Dukheri, Salarheri, Ranwala, Manglai, and Sambhalkhan. The proposed sectors are designated as Sector 27, 28, 36, 40, 40-A, 41-A, and 42.

These sectors will feature a well-planned mix of residential areas, open spaces, commercial zones, transport and communication facilities, and industrial plots to ensure balanced and sustainable development. Minister Vij emphasized that this initiative is designed to modernize urban growth and support the city's rapid expansion.

Transparent Land Aggregation Process

To facilitate the development, the Haryana government has launched the e-Bhoomi portal for land aggregation. Landowners interested in voluntarily selling their land for sector development can submit applications through this portal until April 30, 2026. Vij assured that the process is transparent, with fair market prices offered and direct participation opportunities for landowners in the development process.

Long-Term Vision and Infrastructure Alignment

Highlighting the long-term vision, Vij stated that the development of these seven new sectors will extend Ambala Cantt up to the Ring Road, representing a major advancement in the city's expansion and modernization efforts. He noted that this plan aligns with ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Ring Road construction, which he had advocated for in previous communications with the Haryana government.

Vij recalled writing to the state government last year to urge the development of new HSVP sectors in Ambala Cantt, following meetings with officials and surveys along the Ring Road corridor to identify suitable land. With HSVP formally initiating the process, the Ambala Cantt expansion project is now poised for implementation, promising a significant boost to urban infrastructure in the region.

Government Support and Future Prospects

Expressing gratitude to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Vij praised the state government for accelerating infrastructure development and described the move as a commendable step towards modern urban growth. The project is expected to enhance the quality of life for residents, attract investment, and position Ambala Cantt as a key metropolitan center in Haryana, with administrative coordination from Chandigarh.
