IUML Completes 51 Houses for Wayanad Landslide Victims, Prioritizes Hindu Families

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has successfully completed and handed over 51 houses to rehabilitate families devastated by the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides in Wayanad. This significant humanitarian project, titled Sneha Bhavanam, was formally inaugurated at the project site in Thrikkaippatta on Saturday, marking a major step in recovery efforts for the affected community.

Official Handover Ceremony

IUML state president Panakkad Sayed Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal personally handed over the keys and official documents to select beneficiaries during a ceremony attended by dignitaries and community members. Thangal emphasized that the project stands as a powerful testament to collective effort and unwavering resolve. He praised the remarkable unity displayed by people across backgrounds to support families impacted by the tragic landslides. Through Sneha Bhavanam, the Muslim League aims to convey a profound message that humanity transcends all barriers of caste and religion.

Inclusive Allocation Process

In a notable demonstration of inclusivity, 14 of the 51 houses completed in the first phase were allocated to Hindu families. These families were given priority without undergoing a draw of lots, a decision made to ensure their accommodation within the initial phase of the project itself. The remaining 37 beneficiaries, all from the Muslim community, were selected through a transparent draw system. This approach underscores the project's commitment to equitable support regardless of religious affiliation.

Political Support and Endorsement

AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, serving as the chief guest at the function, expressed her pride in witnessing every political party fulfilling their promises to provide essential support and assistance to the survivors of the tragedy. Her presence highlighted the cross-party collaboration in addressing the aftermath of the natural disaster. IUML national general secretary P K Kunhalikutty presided over the event, reinforcing the organization's dedication to humanitarian causes.

Comprehensive Housing Specifications

Each house, constructed on an eight-cent plot, spans 1,060 square feet and features:

  • Three spacious bedrooms
  • A fully equipped kitchen
  • A dining hall and dedicated work area
  • A comfortable sit-out and a small garden

The homes are furnished with essential items including beds, sofas, dining tables, chairs, clocks, and various appliances. Additionally, the infrastructure includes interlocked tiled roads, reliable water and electricity connections, a paved courtyard, and a seven-metre-wide brick-paved road in front of each house.

Enhanced Community Amenities

The project area has been developed with extensive amenities to ensure a high quality of life for residents. A well and a large tank have been installed to provide clean, potable water to all homes. The construction incorporates a foundation designed to allow for future vertical expansion, offering flexibility for growing families.

Kunhalikutty announced that facilities for places of worship will be arranged within the project area based on residents' preferences. Although temples, churches, mosques, and cultural centres are available nearby, the Muslim League will provide dedicated prayer spaces as needed. The housing project also includes a community hall and a park, with the entire site beautified through the planting of trees and shrubs. Located within an 8km radius of Kalpetta town, the project ensures convenient access to urban facilities while maintaining a serene, green environment.
