The indefinite hunger strike and protest by Jaipur City Transport Services Ltd (JCTSL) employees, which had been ongoing for the past 14 days over 14 pending demands, concluded on Thursday following discussions with JCTSL managing director Narayan Singh.
Employee Demands
Union member Ramkunwar Bishnoi stated that the employees were protesting against delays in introducing new buses, recruitment on vacant posts, proper maintenance of buses, implementation of the Gratuity Act, payment of overtime dues, and release of the seniority list. The protesters also demanded the removal of both depot managers and the redeployment of conductors who had been assigned office duties for a long time back to bus routes.
Protest Activities
Employees were staging a sit-in at Shaheed Smarak and Todi depot while pressing for their 14-point charter of demands.
Resolution
According to Nyangli, the managing director assured the employees during Thursday’s meeting that action would be taken to fulfill their major demands within the next 10 to 15 days. Following this assurance and agreement on most of the demands, the employees decided to call off the hunger strike and end the protest.
