In Kerala's Kunnathur assembly constituency, the RSP's Ullas Kovur emerged victorious, defeating RSP (Leninist-Marxist)'s Kovoor Kunjumon by a margin of 25,314 votes. Ullas Kovur secured 81,488 votes, while Kovoor Kunjumon received 56,174 votes.
The Kunnathur constituency is a Scheduled Caste (SC) reserved seat and encompasses panchayats such as East Kallada, Munroe Island, Kunnathur, Mynagappally, Poruvazhy, Sasthamcotta, Sooranad North, Sooranad South, West Kallada, and Pavithreswaram. The region is characterized by canal networks, wetlands, and paddy fields that shape its agrarian-based political landscape.
In the 2021 assembly elections, Kovoor Kunjumon (RSP-L, LDF) won the seat with 69,436 votes, accounting for 43.13 percent of the vote share. He defeated RSP candidate Ullas Kovoor, who secured 66,646 votes (41.40 percent), with a narrow margin of 2,790 votes. BJP candidate Raji Prasad polled 21,760 votes, while total valid votes stood at 160,062.
Kunnathur has remained a closely contested constituency, with relatively narrow victory margins reflecting its competitive political nature.
