Kolhapur Minister Demands Rs 1,093 Crore for Development, Stresses Transparency
District guardian minister Prakash Abitkar on Wednesday issued a clear directive to officials, emphasizing the need to utilize approved funds effectively and transparently to ensure residents receive quality facilities. This instruction came during the District Planning and Development Council (DPDC) meeting held on Wednesday afternoon, which was also chaired by co-guardian minister Madhuri Misal.
Major Financial Proposal for Kolhapur
Abitkar announced that a substantial demand of Rs 1,093 crore will be presented to the state government for the upcoming financial year to support various development initiatives across Kolhapur. A crucial meeting is scheduled for Thursday in Mumbai, where this proposal will be discussed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Key Components of the Development Plan
The comprehensive proposal includes funding for the construction of six new primary health centres at strategic locations: Nilewadi (Hatakanangle), Takaliwadi and Sambhajipur (Shirol), Kandgaon (Karvir), Belewadi Kalamma (Kagal), and Malage Budruk (Kagal). Additionally, the plan seeks approval to include six new pilgrimage sites in the "C" category pilgrimage sites, aiming to boost religious tourism and local infrastructure.
District Annual Plan and Ongoing Schemes
The draft plan for the District Annual Plan (general) for 2026-27 outlines a wide range of projects. These include the renovation of primary schools, anganwadis, and office buildings under the government's 150-day plan, strengthening of the comprehensive health system, infrastructure improvements for the police department, construction of sewerage systems, enhancement of district and rural roads, flood control measures, and other essential works.
Furthermore, the Samruddha School Scheme 2025-26 is being actively implemented across all schools under the Zilla Parishad Primary Education Department, utilizing Rs 64 crore to improve educational facilities and outcomes.
Detailed Presentations and Discussions
During the meeting, detailed presentations were made on the Mahalaxmi temple development plan and the Jyotiba hill development plan, highlighting efforts to preserve and promote cultural and religious heritage. The discussions also covered critical issues such as the employment guarantee scheme, paved roads, the flood situation, protection of citizens from wild animals, the newly approved cricket stadium, and the provision of funds to schools and anganwadis, including those in urban areas.
Financial Accountability and Timely Execution
Abitkar provided an update on the current fiscal year's budget, noting that out of the budgeted funds of Rs 764 crore, Rs 307 crore has been spent so far. He stressed the importance of utilizing the remaining funds within the stipulated period to avoid lapses and ensure continuous progress. The minister urged officials to complete all development work in a timely manner, with a strong focus on maintaining high-quality standards.
Co-guardian minister Madhuri Misal reinforced this message by directing that all approved funds must be fully spent by the end of March, ensuring maximum benefit for the district's residents.

Before the meeting commenced, tributes were paid to the late deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, honoring his contributions and legacy in public service.
