KTR, a prominent leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has demanded an immediate probe into the Rs 1,600 crore Singareni coal scam, alleging a nexus between Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy. Speaking to the media on Saturday, KTR accused the Congress government of turning Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) into a hub of corruption.
Allegations of Corruption
KTR stated that ever since the Congress government assumed office in Telangana, Singareni has become synonymous with a series of scandals. He claimed that the scam involves illegal coal mining and transportation, leading to a loss of Rs 1,600 crore to the state exchequer. “The Revanth Reddy government is protecting the culprits, and there is a clear nexus between the Chief Minister and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy,” KTR alleged.
Demand for CBI Inquiry
The BRS leader demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter, asserting that a fair investigation is impossible under the current state administration. He also called for the immediate suspension of officials involved in the scam. “The people of Telangana will not tolerate this loot. We will continue to fight until justice is served,” he added.
Political Reactions
The Congress party has dismissed KTR’s allegations as baseless and politically motivated. A party spokesperson said, “KTR is making false accusations to divert attention from the BRS’s own failures. The Congress government is committed to transparency and will take strict action if any wrongdoing is found.” The BJP, however, has remained silent on the issue.
The Singareni coal scam is the latest in a series of corruption allegations that have rocked Telangana politics. Earlier this year, the BRS had accused the Congress government of irregularities in the distribution of sheep and goat units under a welfare scheme. The state government has denied all allegations and challenged the opposition to provide evidence.
