Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Kumaraswamy has announced that he will not be able to participate in the Bharatiya Janata Party's Abhimanotsava event. The decision comes amid controversy over the recounting of votes in the Sringeri constituency.
Kumaraswamy's Statement on Sringeri Recount
Commenting on the recounting process in Sringeri, Kumaraswamy stated that an FIR has been registered in connection with the matter. He further noted that Congress candidate Rajegowda has also lodged a formal complaint with the Election Commission of India regarding the recounting.
The JD(S) leader expressed his inability to attend the BJP's celebratory event, citing the ongoing developments and his commitment to addressing the concerns raised by the Sringeri recounting issue.
Political Reactions and Implications
The announcement has drawn attention to the political tensions in Karnataka, where the recounting of votes in Sringeri has become a flashpoint between the Congress and the ruling BJP. Kumaraswamy's decision to skip the Abhimanotsava is seen as a move to distance himself from the controversy while maintaining his party's stance on electoral transparency.
Congress' Rajegowda, who lost the Sringeri seat, has alleged irregularities in the counting process and demanded a thorough investigation. The Election Commission is yet to respond to the complaint.
The BJP's Abhimanotsava, a celebration of the party's achievements, is scheduled to take place later this week. Kumaraswamy's absence is likely to be interpreted as a sign of the widening rift between the JD(S) and the BJP in the state.
