The Maharashtra government has taken a significant step towards implementing the 21,702-crore Nagpur-Chandrapur Access-Controlled Expressway by approving a loan from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) for land acquisition. Additionally, the state has granted approval to the draft government guarantee deed required for borrowing the funds.
Cabinet Committee Decision
The decision was made following deliberations by the cabinet committee on infrastructure and is expected to accelerate the land acquisition process. The state has also directed the finance department to issue a separate government resolution for a sovereign guarantee for the loan to be raised from HUDCO.
Project Details
The 204.799-kilometer-long expressway was approved for implementation through the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation on February 20, 2026. The project will run from Seldoh in Wardha to Navegaon More in Chandrapur, creating a high-speed, access-controlled road link between the two regions.
Administrative approval has already been granted for land acquisition expenditure of 2,353.94 crore. This includes 1,493.31 crore towards the principal amount and an estimated 860.63 crore towards interest. The government has now approved raising these funds via HUDCO, enabling the land acquisition process to move forward.
Expressway Features
The expressway will be developed as a four-lane corridor and will feature seven interchanges along its route. A total of 2,159.087 hectares of land will be required for the project. The expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time and boost economic development in the region.
