Kolkata is set for a day of significant political and civic activity this Wednesday, December 17, 2025, featuring a major address by the Chief Minister and the crucial start of the voter list revision process.
Chief Minister's Address to Business Community
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to speak to a gathering of over 12,000 traders and MSME representatives. The event, known as the Byabasayi Sammelan, will be held at the Netaji Indoor Stadium. This conclave is organized ahead of the larger Bengal Business Conclave and is being facilitated by the Confederation of West Bengal Trade Association (CWBTA), which serves as the apex body for more than 100 trade associations across the state.
Electoral Roll Revision Commences
In a parallel development of public importance, the process to rectify the draft electoral rolls begins on the same day. The Election Commission published the draft list on Tuesday following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise conducted across West Bengal.
Starting Wednesday, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will initiate door-to-door visits to verify voter information. Officials have stated that individuals can get their names included in the final list by presenting any one of 11 specified documents. Furthermore, new eligible voters can submit their applications by filling out Form 6.
Other Key Events in the City
The day will also witness a rally under the 'Bangla Bachao Jatra' (Save Bengal March) program. Scheduled to commence around 11 am, the rally will see participation from private cab aggregator drivers, including those from Ola and Uber, and members of the Cab Drivers’ Union (CITU). The procession will be led by CITU secretary Sohag Khan.
The rally's route will start from Chinar Park, under the jurisdiction of Baguiati Police Station, and proceed towards the Jyoti Basu Research Center near the Eco Park Police Station. Organizers expect at least 120 participants to join the march.
Additionally, the Kolkata Police Annual Sports Meet for 2025-2026 kicks off on Wednesday. The two-day event will be hosted at the Body Guard Lines Ground. Manoj Kumar Verma, IPS, Commissioner of Police, will inaugurate the meet. The closing ceremony on Friday will have actor Anirban Chakrabarti as the chief guest.
