MLA Sandhu Leads Phase-2 Anti-Drug Meeting in Tarn Taran

A special meeting on phase-2 of the war against drugs was held under the leadership of Tarn Taran MLA Harmeet Singh Sandhu in Tarn Taran today. The meeting focused on strengthening community efforts to combat drug abuse and ensure the successful rehabilitation of affected youth.

Attendance and Participation

Conveners, presidents, and members of village and ward defence committees actively involved in the drug de-addiction campaign attended the meeting. Their participation underscored the grassroots commitment to eradicating the drug menace.

MLA's Address

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Harmeet Singh Sandhu stated that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is working with full determination to completely eradicate the menace of drugs. He highlighted that the state government has sent a large number of drug smugglers behind bars and has also made large-scale efforts for the rehabilitation of the youth trapped in the swamp of drugs.

Sandhu emphasized that the fight against drugs is not only the job of the government or the administration but a collective responsibility of society. He urged all stakeholders to unite in this mission to create a drug-free Punjab.

The meeting was attended by several prominent figures, including SDM Dr Karanvir Singh, DSP (City) Sukhbir Singh, former president of Municipal Council Bhupinder Singh Khera, Market Committee Chairman Balwinder Singh Randhawa, and Drug Detoxification Front coordinator Kuldeep Singh Dhillon. Their presence highlighted the multi-agency approach being adopted to tackle the drug issue.

Phase-2 Strategy

The phase-2 strategy focuses on enhanced surveillance, stricter enforcement, and community engagement. The defence committees will play a crucial role in identifying and reporting drug-related activities, while rehabilitation centers will provide necessary support to addicts seeking to rebuild their lives.

The Punjab government has allocated additional resources for this phase, including increased funding for de-addiction centers and awareness campaigns in rural areas. The MLA urged the public to cooperate with authorities and report any suspicious activities to ensure the success of the campaign.
