In a move aimed at bolstering public safety, Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang has formally requested the establishment of a new police station in Sector 125 of Kharar. The MP cited severe strain on existing resources due to rapid urbanization and a booming population in the area.
Rapid Growth Strains Existing Policing
Malvinder Singh Kang, the MP representing Sri Anandpur Sahib, addressed a demi-official letter to Punjab's Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, on December 28, 2025. He highlighted a critical challenge: the population in and around Sector 125 has skyrocketed in recent years, now estimated to be close to 60,000 people.
This surge includes a large number of migrant residents who have settled there. Kang argued that the current policing infrastructure is simply not equipped to handle this demographic explosion, putting public safety at risk.
Distance Delays Emergency Response
The core of the problem lies in jurisdiction. Presently, Sector 125 falls under the Kharar police station, which is situated nearly 10 kilometres away. According to the MP, this considerable distance, combined with the fast-expanding population, consistently leads to delayed police responses.
These delays occur during emergencies, accidents, and various law-and-order situations, causing significant inconvenience to residents and hampering effective crime prevention and resolution.
Expected Benefits of a Dedicated Facility
Kang emphasized that setting up a dedicated police station in Sector 125 would directly address these shortcomings. He stated it would achieve three key improvements:
- Significantly improve response time to incidents.
- Strengthen law enforcement presence and capabilities in the locality.
- Ensure better safety and security for all residents.
A Plea for Public Safety Priority
Expressing his confidence in the Punjab Police, the MP hoped his request would be considered seriously in the larger interest of public welfare. He reiterated that ensuring a secure environment and providing timely police assistance remains a top priority for the administration.
The appeal underscores the growing pains of suburban areas around major cities, where infrastructure often lags behind rapid residential and commercial development, creating new law-and-order challenges that require proactive solutions.
