A tragic incident occurred at the NSCI Dome in Mumbai during a music concert on June 7, 2026, when a 35-year-old man collapsed and died. The deceased, identified as Rohan Mehta, a resident of Andheri, was attending the concert along with his friends when he suddenly fell unconscious.
Incident Details
According to eyewitnesses, Mehta was standing near the stage when he complained of dizziness and collapsed. Concert organizers immediately alerted the medical team present at the venue. Paramedics rushed to his aid and performed CPR before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Police Investigation
The Mumbai Police have registered a case of accidental death and launched an inquiry. Senior Inspector Mahesh Patil of the Worli Police Station stated, "We are examining CCTV footage and recording statements of eyewitnesses to ascertain the exact cause of death. A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and we are awaiting the report."
Preliminary investigations suggest that Mehta may have suffered a cardiac arrest, but officials have not ruled out other possibilities such as dehydration or a pre-existing medical condition. "We are looking into all angles, including whether the concert organizers adhered to safety protocols," Patil added.
Organizer's Response
The event organizers, in a statement, expressed their condolences to the family and assured full cooperation with the authorities. "We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident. Our thoughts are with the bereaved family. We are assisting the police in their investigation," the statement read.
This incident has raised concerns about safety measures at large public gatherings, especially during the summer months when heat and overcrowding can pose health risks. Concertgoers have called for stricter enforcement of medical facilities and crowd management protocols at such events.
The NSCI Dome, a popular venue for concerts and sports events, has seen several high-profile performances in the past. Following this incident, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a review of safety regulations for all event venues in the city.
