Bihar Government Launches Ambitious Employment and Urban Development Drive
In a significant move that sets the tone for its governance agenda, the newly formed Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar has unveiled a comprehensive roadmap focused on massive employment generation and rapid industrial expansion during its first cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting established the policy direction for the next five years, with proposals specifically designed to harness Bihar's substantial youth population and accelerate economic growth across the state.
One Crore Jobs Target and Urban Development Initiatives
The cabinet endorsed an ambitious plan to provide one crore jobs within the next five years, marking one of the largest employment generation targets in the state's history. This initiative comes as part of the government's commitment to addressing unemployment among Bihar's youth.
In a major urban development push, the cabinet approved the establishment of 11 satellite townships or green-field townships across the state. These will be developed in each of the nine divisions, with additional townships planned for Sonepur and Sitamarhi, aiming to promote planned and quality urban infrastructure.
Technology and Industrial Expansion
The government gave its nod for the creation of Bihar Artificial Intelligence Mission, an initiative designed to position the state as a leading player in the AI domain. This move signals Bihar's entry into cutting-edge technology sectors.
Further strengthening its tech ambitions, the cabinet unveiled proposals to develop Bihar as the technology hub of Eastern India. This vision includes establishing a defence corridor, semi-conductor manufacturing park, global capability centres, a mega tech city, and a fintech city.
To execute these ambitious technology projects, a high-level committee will be formed under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit. The committee will incorporate expert consultants and is expected to submit its detailed action plan within six months.
Revival of Sugar Industry and Employment Track Record
The cabinet also approved the constitution of another high-level committee under the Chief Secretary to formulate an action plan for establishing new sugar mills and reviving non-functional ones. According to official statements, nine closed sugar mills will resume operations while 25 new mills will be established.
Following the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took to social media to emphasize his government's commitment to job creation. "Providing maximum government jobs and employment opportunities to the youth has always been our priority," Nitish stated in his post.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government's previous employment achievements, noting that under Saat Nischay-2 between 2020 and 2025, approximately 50 lakh young people in Bihar received government jobs and employment opportunities.
"For the next five years (2025-30), we have set a target to provide one crore youths with jobs and employment opportunities," he added, underscoring the scale of the government's employment generation vision.
The comprehensive cabinet decisions reflect the new government's multi-pronged approach to development, combining employment generation, urban planning, technological advancement, and industrial revival to transform Bihar's economic landscape.
