North Karnataka Residents and Businesses Await State Budget Announcements
Residents across North Karnataka, particularly in the Hubballi-Dharwad region, are eagerly anticipating the state budget to be presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday. The budget is expected to introduce new schemes and allocate substantial funds aimed at accelerating the development of this crucial area.
Key Demands from the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI)
The Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has recently submitted a comprehensive list of proposals to the Chief Minister. Represented by President G K Adappagoudar and Honorary Secretary Uday Revankar, the chamber has emphasized several critical areas requiring immediate attention and investment.
Infrastructure and Industrial Development: KCCI has called for enhanced infrastructure in industrial zones, the expedited establishment of a defence park, and increased investor engagement in Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, and other North Karnataka districts. They advocate for a special package to develop industrial parks, food processing clusters, and logistics hubs, alongside a push to advance the "Beyond Bengaluru" initiative to foster growth in cities outside the state capital.
Railway Projects and Land Acquisition
A major focus is on accelerating long-pending railway projects through faster land acquisition. Key links include:
- Dharwad-Belagavi (via Kittur)
- Gadag-Yalavigi
- Davanagere-Tumkur
Additionally, KCCI demands a survey for a new 134-km railway line from Annigeri to Yallammangudda and priority resolution of issues with the Hubballi-Ankola railway connection.
Agricultural and Commercial Enhancements
For the agricultural sector, KCCI has proposed a Rs 500 crore special package to develop the Hubballi APMC in Amargol. This includes creating basic infrastructure, implementing WiFi connectivity for e-tendering, providing property tax exemptions for traders, and establishing a network of cold storage facilities.
Support for Technology and Healthcare
The chamber also highlights the need for new schemes to establish technological colleges and well-equipped hospitals and medical hubs in rural areas. They stress the importance of developing IT companies and large industries in key cities such as Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Gadag, Ballari, Kalaburagi, and Bagalkot.
Incentives for Entrepreneurs and Industrialists
To encourage local entrepreneurship, KCCI suggests creating industrial sites of 10 gunta in size to be allocated to budding entrepreneurs at affordable costs. They further seek a property tax exemption of up to 50% for industrialists operating in Hubballi-Dharwad, aiming to reduce operational burdens and stimulate economic activity.
As the budget presentation approaches, stakeholders in North Karnataka remain hopeful that these demands will be addressed, paving the way for sustained regional development and improved quality of life.
