Prayagraj District Witnesses Significant Voter List Reduction After Intensive Revision
The final electoral roll published on Friday following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has revealed a substantial decrease of over 8.26 lakh voters in Prayagraj district. According to official statements, the total number of registered electors now stands at 38,65,975, marking a notable decline from the 46,92,860 voters recorded when the revision process commenced on October 27, 2025.
Election Commission's Verification Drive Ensures Accuracy
The Election Commission of India initiated the SIR with the primary objective of guaranteeing the precision and authenticity of the electoral rolls. This comprehensive exercise involved meticulous door-to-door verification across all twelve assembly constituencies within the district. Special camps were organized at polling stations where voters were encouraged to complete enumeration forms to confirm their details.
Officials undertook an extensive cross-verification process, comparing current voter data with the 2003 electoral roll to identify and eliminate duplicate entries, individuals who have relocated, deceased persons, and other ineligible voters. This rigorous approach aimed to cleanse the voter list of any discrepancies or outdated information.
Phased Deletion and Subsequent Additions
During the initial phase of the revision, more than 11.56 lakh names were earmarked for deletion due to various factors including migration, deaths, or the non-availability of voters at their registered addresses. Consequently, the draft electoral roll published on January 6, 2026, reflected a reduced voter count of 35,36,555.
A designated window for claims and objections remained open until March 27, 2026, allowing eligible citizens to submit Form-6 applications for inclusion, correction, or deletion. Following thorough verification and the disposal of these claims, an additional 3,29,420 new voters were incorporated into the list, bringing the final tally to approximately 38.65 lakh.
Constituency-Wise Impact and Official Statements
Among the twelve assembly constituencies, Allahabad North experienced the maximum reduction, with around 1.45 lakh names removed from the voter list. Other segments also witnessed significant alterations in voter numbers, underscoring the extensive impact of the large-scale verification initiative.
District Election Officer and District Magistrate of Prayagraj, Manish Kumar Verma, officially released the final electoral roll on Friday and distributed copies to representatives of recognized political parties. Verma emphasized that the exercise was conducted in a transparent and systematic manner to ensure an accurate and error-free voter list.
He further clarified that eligible citizens who were inadvertently omitted or have recently attained voting age can continue to apply for inclusion through Form-6. Verma highlighted that the updating of electoral rolls is an ongoing process, consistently aligned with the guidelines established by the Election Commission of India.
