Pune's Ganeshkhind Flyover Inaugurated and Named After Ajit Pawar

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis officially opened the newly constructed integrated flyover on Ganeshkhind Road in Pune for public use on Sunday. During the online inauguration ceremony, he announced that the flyover will be named in honor of former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, recognizing his pivotal contributions to the project.

Engineering Excellence and Modern Design

In his address, Fadnavis highlighted that the bridge showcases the state's advanced engineering capabilities and serves as a prime example of modern design and technology application. He emphasized the necessity of more such infrastructure initiatives to alleviate traffic congestion in Pune, which is rapidly emerging as a national hub for Global Capability Centres.

Despite facing criticism and opposition, the project was successfully completed, with Fadnavis crediting the late Ajit Pawar for his crucial role in uniting experts, planners, and critics to drive the project forward.

Double-Decker Structure and Traffic Relief

Constructed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), the flyover features a innovative double-decker design. The lower deck functions as a flyover for road traffic, while the upper deck is designated to carry the Metro line connecting Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar. Construction of the top level has been fully completed, and a successful trial run of the Metro train on this route was recently conducted.

The flyover is expected to significantly ease traffic movement between key areas including Pashan Road, Baner Road, Aundh, and Shivajinagar, addressing long-standing congestion issues.

Government Priorities and Infrastructure Development

Fadnavis stressed the importance of completing government infrastructure projects within a shorter timeframe, ideally between two and three years, to ensure timely benefits and efficient utilization of public facilities. He noted that reducing traffic congestion in Pune is a top priority to support the city's continued growth and prevent the slowdown seen in other major cities due to inadequate infrastructure.

Deputy CM Sunetra Ajit Pawar's Remarks

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar addressed the persistent traffic problems near Savitribai Phule Pune University's main gate and along Ganeshkhind Road, which have troubled residents for years. She highlighted Ajit Pawar's key role in accelerating several major road projects in Pune district through regular coordination with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

These efforts facilitated the advancement of important routes such as Pune–Shirur, Hadapsar–Yavat, Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur, and Nashik Phata–Khed–Rajgurunagar, she stated.

She also mentioned a 21% increase in infrastructure allocation in the state budget, indicating that Pune's development will receive a major boost from upcoming projects. These include the next phases of the Metro, the Yerawada-Katraj subway, and the six-laning of various routes. The budget announcement to develop Pune as a 'Growth Hub' similar to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region was described as a joyous moment for every resident of Pune.
