A crucial workshop for revenue officers in Hassan district underscored the imperative need for officials to stay abreast of evolving laws to ensure efficient and error-free public service. The session focused on recent amendments to the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1966.
Secretary Stresses the Role of the 'Mother Department'
District nodal secretary and principal secretary of the youth empowerment and sports department, Naveen Raj Singh, inaugurated the workshop at Hassanamba Kalakshetra. He emphasised that the revenue department operates as the government's direct interface with citizens, often termed the "mother department." Singh pointed out that the department acts as the landowner on the government's behalf.
He explained that government revenue is a broad stream, encompassing not just land revenue but also collections from GST, transport, and other departments. With rules governing revenue constantly evolving, Singh stated that such workshops are vital for officials to gain clarity on new regulations and enhance service delivery.
Adapting to Digitisation and Legal Changes
Singh issued a clear caution to the assembled officers and staff. He warned that a failure to thoroughly understand the amended laws could lead to significant mistakes, especially in an era where revenue records are being rapidly digitised. Staying updated is no longer optional but a necessity for accuracy and transparency.
Echoing this sentiment, Deputy Commissioner KS Latha Kumari detailed that several amendments have been introduced to the land revenue rules. She urged all revenue personnel to prepare for changes in their duties by deeply studying the amendment bills. Kumari also highlighted an ongoing critical task: the revision of voter lists in the district. She called upon all taluk tahsildars and their staff to execute this responsibility with heightened attention and diligence.
District Leadership in Attendance
The workshop saw participation from the district's top administrative brass, demonstrating the importance accorded to this training. Key attendees included:
- Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer BR Poornima
- Additional Deputy Commissioner Jagadish Gangannavar
- Special Land Acquisition Officer Manjunath
- All tahsildars of Hassan district
The collective presence underscored a unified district administration committed to equipping its revenue workforce with the knowledge required to navigate legal updates and serve the public effectively in a digital age.
