Salem Minister Inaugurates Rs 31 Lakh Rainwater Drainage Projects

In a significant move to enhance urban infrastructure, Tourism Minister R Rajendran inaugurated construction work on rainwater drainages worth Rs 31 lakh in the Ammapettai and Hastampatti zones of the Salem corporation on Tuesday. This initiative is part of broader efforts to address flooding issues and promote balanced development across the region.

Project Details and Funding

The drainage projects are strategically planned to mitigate waterlogging and improve civic amenities. In the Hastampatti zone, a rainwater drainage system will be constructed on Kannakuppillai Street at a cost of Rs 8 lakh, funded under the 15th Central Finance Commission plan for 2025-26. Additionally, in the Molapattiyan area of the same zone, drains will be built with an investment of Rs 13 lakh, further strengthening the local drainage network.

Flood Prevention in Ammapet Zone

In the Ammapet zone, a canal costing Rs 10 lakh will be developed to divert floodwater from the Gandhi Statue Bose Maidan area into the Thirumanimutharu river. This measure aims to prevent seasonal flooding and protect public spaces, ensuring safer and more resilient urban environments for residents.

Minister's Remarks on Development Initiatives

During the inauguration, Minister Rajendran highlighted the state government's commitment to inclusive growth. He stated, "Chief Minister MK Stalin has implemented various schemes for the benefit of all people. Corporations, municipalities, town panchayats, and village panchayats are providing balanced development to all the areas." This underscores the collaborative approach to infrastructure enhancement across administrative levels.

The event was attended by key officials, including District Collector R Brindha Devi, Mayor A Ramachandran, and Corporation Commissioner M Elangovan, who accompanied the minister as he inaugurated the drainage constructions in each location.
