Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has strongly rejected allegations that five Tamil Nadu Congress MLAs were relocated to a resort near Bengaluru. Addressing the media, Shivakumar stated, "All of that is false. The party high command has not spoken to me about it."
Claims of MLA Relocation Dismissed
Reports had emerged suggesting that five legislators from Tamil Nadu were housed at the Eagleton Resort on the outskirts of Bengaluru, allegedly to prevent them from defecting ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026. However, Shivakumar categorically denied any knowledge of such an arrangement.
Party High Command Not Consulted
The Congress leader emphasized that the party's central leadership had not discussed any such move with him. "I have no information about any MLAs being shifted to Bengaluru. These are baseless rumors being spread by certain quarters," he added.
Shivakumar, who also serves as the Karnataka Congress chief, reiterated that the party remains united and focused on the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu. He urged the media not to give credence to unverified reports.
Political Context
The denial comes amid heightened political activity in Tamil Nadu, where the Congress is part of the opposition alliance. Speculation about MLA poaching or relocation often surfaces during election seasons, but Shivakumar's firm rebuttal aims to quash such narratives.
Earlier, some news outlets had claimed that the MLAs were brought to Bengaluru to ensure their safety and prevent any potential horse-trading. However, Shivakumar's statement has now cast doubt on those assertions.
The development underscores the sensitivity of inter-state political dynamics, especially with elections around the corner. Shivakumar's clear message is intended to reassure party workers and the public that no such covert operations are underway.
