CM Stalin: True Spiritualists and Believers Back Dravidian Model Government

Chief Minister M K Stalin of Tamil Nadu declared on Saturday that authentic spiritualists and devout believers wholeheartedly support a Dravidian model government. This administration, he emphasized, adheres to the foundational principle of "everything for everyone" and actively implements this vision through a comprehensive array of schemes and programs.

Urging Rejection of Divisive Forces

Addressing a gathering of village temple priests at Kabaleeswarar Thidal in Chennai, Stalin urged the public to identify and decisively reject divisive forces that threaten social harmony. "Seeing this conference, some may be astonished; a few may even be annoyed," he remarked, highlighting the unique nature of the event. He clarified that the DMK government's core objective is to celebrate equality and uphold the dignity and rights of every individual. Stalin expressed his hope that this progressive spirit would extend beyond Tamil Nadu to fortify national unity.

Uncompromising Commitment Earns Support

"Since we are doing this without compromise, spiritual leaders and believers continue to support this government," Stalin stated, reinforcing the need to oppose those attempting to fragment society. He reflected on the pervasive untouchability that marred earlier decades, noting Tamil Nadu's remarkable transformation. Today, individuals from all social sections can freely enter temples, serve as priests, and offer prayers in Tamil within the sanctum sanctorum. "This is true social transformation — and this is what true spiritualists wish for," he affirmed.

Guided by Founding Principles

On the subject of spirituality, Stalin asserted that the DMK steadfastly follows the principles established by its founders. He cited party founder C N Annadurai's tenet, ‘Ondre Kulam, Oruvane Deivam' (all are one; all gods are the same), and former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's well-known stance that they were not opposed to temples, but rather to their misuse as havens for wrongdoers. "Guided by these principles, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department functioned to safeguard the rights and dignity of all," he explained.

Contrast with Previous Regime

Taking a veiled dig at the preceding AIADMK government, Stalin pointed out that during their tenure, the public was often unaware of who the minister in charge was. He contrasted this with the current transparent administration, specifically praising HR&CE Minister P K Sekarbabu for his effective leadership and accessibility.

Departmental Achievements and New Announcements

Stalin detailed the significant accomplishments of the HR&CE department over the past five years, which include:

  • Consecration of 4,335 temples in 1,759 days
  • Appointment of 12 women Odhuvars
  • Appointment of 29 non-Brahmin priests

Furthermore, he unveiled 11 new announcements aimed at benefiting temple priests, such as:

  1. Providing new clothes for priests during the Pongal festival
  2. Doubling the compensation from 50,000 to a higher amount upon a priest's demise
  3. Enhancing the annual salary ceiling to 1.25 lakh rupees

These initiatives underscore the government's dedication to supporting religious functionaries while advancing social equity and inclusivity across the state.
