SUCI Leader Demands Voter List Inclusion, Accuses Election Commission of BJP Bias in Bengal
SUCI state secretary Chandidas Bhattacharya on Friday issued a strong demand that everyone who filled enumeration forms during the SIR process must be included in the voter list. He warned that removing millions of names, with a majority being women, would render the upcoming election "a farce".
Allegations of Massive Voter Deletions Without Appeal
Bhattacharya highlighted a critical issue in West Bengal, stating that 91 lakh names have been removed from voter lists with no avenue for appeal provided to those affected. He accused the Election Commission of acting as a "BJP stooge" to introduce the National Register of Citizens through the backdoor, a move he claims is politically motivated.
High-Profile Deletions and Criticism of Political Alignments
In a notable revelation, Bhattacharya pointed out that even SUCI's former Member of Parliament and a retired High Court judge have had their names deleted from the voter lists, underscoring the widespread nature of the issue. He also criticized the Communist Party of India for once again aligning with what he termed a "communal party", though he did not specify which party, in a move that has drawn scrutiny in the political landscape.
The SUCI leader's statements come amid growing concerns over voter list integrity in Bengal, with calls for transparency and fairness in the electoral process to ensure democratic principles are upheld.
