Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday launched a scathing attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over widespread power cuts in the state. Badal promised that once SAD returns to power in 2027, Punjab will regain its status as a power-surplus state.
Badal's Remarks on Power Crisis
Taking to social media platform X, Badal wrote, "Shame on the Bhagwant Mann government for pushing Punjab into darkness amid scorching temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. People are suffering for hours without fans and coolers, industries are shutting down, and farmers are being hit hard." He accused the current administration of failing to generate even a single extra unit of electricity, adding that "fake promises and false advertisements will not serve Punjab."
SAD's Track Record
Badal highlighted the achievements of his party's previous tenure, stating, "During the Shiromani Akali Dal government, Punjab was made power-surplus and completely free from power cuts. We built thermal plants, encouraged solar energy projects, and ensured 24x7 power supply. The Aam Aadmi Party has destroyed all that progress."
Promise for 2027
In a subsequent post, Badal assured the people of Punjab, "Once the Shiromani Akali Dal forms the government in 2027, we will restore Punjab as a power-surplus state. We are fully committed to providing reliable, round-the-clock electricity to every household, shop, office, and industry."
The criticism comes as Punjab grapples with severe power outages during an intense heatwave, affecting daily life and economic activities across the state.
