Suspected Maoists kill man in West Singhbhum

A 37-year-old man was killed by suspected Maoists in West Singhbhum district late on Friday, police said on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Ramesh Champia alias Chamra, was a resident of Roigutu village under Chotanagra police station limits. He was employed with a construction company involved in building roads in the Saranda forest and Goilkera areas.

Incident Details

According to preliminary investigations, a group of armed suspected Maoists arrived at Roigutu village late Friday evening and called Champia out of his house. They took him to a nearby spot where they stabbed him to death. The assailants then left his body in the middle of the Goilkera-Manoharpur main road and fled the scene.

Police Investigation

Police sources indicated that Champia's possible links with the Maoists are also being probed. West Singhbhum Superintendent of Police Amit Renu stated, "It is the handiwork of suspected Maoists. The deceased had a criminal past. However, his association with the Maoists is a matter of investigation. Further probe is ongoing."
