Patna: Tejashwi Prasad Yadav had reason to feel happy as his party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), opened its account in the Kerala assembly elections on Monday. RJD candidate P K Praveen emerged victorious in the Koothuparamba seat in Kannur district, defeating his nearest rival Jayanthi Rajan of the Indian Union Muslim League by a margin of 1,286 votes.
Praveen garnered a total of 70,448 votes, while BJP's Shijilal finished third with 22,195 votes. This victory marks a significant milestone for the RJD in Kerala, a state where the party has traditionally had limited presence.
Tejashwi's Reaction to Bengal Results
However, reacting to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) defeat in West Bengal, Tejashwi expressed disappointment. He stated, "For so many years, a woman safeguarded West Bengal from purveyors of hate, preserving the state's unity and brotherhood. Today, witnessing Mamata Didi face defeat is deeply painful; Bengal has chosen its own ruin."
Election Results 2026 Overview
The election results across states have brought several surprises. In Tamil Nadu, Vijay's TVK party emerged as a formidable force. In West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee lags behind Suvendu Adhikari after the second round in Bhabanipur. The TVK has pushed both DMK and AIADMK to the margins, while the BJP may oust Mamata in Bengal and retain Assam.
