Three people, including a couple, lost their lives after their car collided with a truck from behind on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) in Noida early Monday. The couple's five-year-old daughter, who was also in the vehicle, miraculously survived the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Greater Noida.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, the family was traveling in a WagonR car along with a friend, heading from Rajasthan to Varanasi. At approximately 2:40 am, the vehicle was moving towards Ghaziabad from the Dadri cut when it struck a truck ahead of it near the Shahpur underpass. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the car heavily damaged.
Passersby alerted the authorities, and police arrived at the scene shortly after. All four occupants of the car were rushed to a nearby hospital. Vivek, his wife Mamta, and their friend Ram were declared dead upon arrival. The couple's five-year-old daughter, who sustained injuries, survived the accident and is now out of danger, as confirmed by doctors.
Investigation and Legal Action
Police have informed the victims' families, and post-mortem examinations have been initiated. The car and the truck involved in the crash have been taken into police custody for further investigation. While the exact cause of the collision has not yet been determined, preliminary findings suggest that the car driver may have dozed off at the wheel, leading to the accident.
An FIR has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 106(1), pertaining to death due to negligence, and 281, which covers rash or negligent driving or riding. Authorities are making efforts to trace the truck driver, who fled the scene after the accident.
The tragic incident highlights the dangers of driving while fatigued, especially during late-night hours. Police are urging drivers to take adequate rest before long journeys to prevent such mishaps. Further updates on the case are awaited as the investigation continues.
