NEW DELHI: The Murarai assembly constituency in West Bengal's Birbhum district has been won by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the latest election results. Dr Mosarraf Hossain, the sitting MLA and TMC candidate, secured 96,902 votes, defeating Congress candidate Sanjibur Rahaman (Bappa) by a substantial margin of 37,705 votes. Rahaman polled 59,197 votes, finishing in second place. Dr Hossain maintained a comfortable lead throughout the counting process.
Constituency Background
Murarai is one of the seven assembly segments under the Birbhum Lok Sabha constituency. It is part of West Bengal's 294 assembly constituencies and has seen active participation from major political parties. The seat has been a stronghold of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) for several consecutive elections.

In the 2021 assembly election, Dr Mosarraf Hossain won the Murarai seat with 67.23% of the total votes polled, followed by BJP candidate Debashish Roy who received 22.14% of the votes. Earlier, Abdur Rahaman (Liton) won the seat in 2016, and Nure Alam Chowdhury secured victory in 2011, both representing AITC.
