KOLKATA: A Trinamool worker accused of extortion took refuge under a massive pile of clothes inside a godown of the state government organization Tantuja at Amta in Howrah on Saturday. This occurred when BJP workers from Basantpur Panchayat in Udaynarayanpur came searching for him at Amta Block 1. They spotted Brahmananda Chakrabarty at the state-owned Tantuja showroom and subsequently informed the concerned Pendro police station about the matter.
Viral Video Leads to Arrest
A video of Chakrabarty hiding under a heap of sarees went viral on social media. Following this, the Amta police station police arrived at Tantuja on Saturday evening in search of Brahmananda and initiated a search. During their conversation with staff, the pile of sarees on one side suddenly moved. Although there was initial suspicion of an earthquake, the police quickly realized that nothing else moved except that specific area. Becoming suspicious, they instructed the staff to remove the sarees. As they slowly removed the rows of sarees, they discovered Brahmananda lying there, covered by a saree on top. The Amta police station police arrested him and later handed him over to Pendro police station.
Political Connections
Brahmananda was a known associate of Udaynarayanpur Trinamool MLA Samir Panja, who is currently absconding. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between political factions in the region.
