Truck-scooter crash kills three of a family in Lohardaga

Gumla: Three members of a family were killed after a speeding truck collided with the scooter in which they were travelling on the Kuru-Ranchi main road in Lohardaga district on Friday, police said.

Victims identified

The deceased were identified as Vishun Bhagtain, 50, her son, Kishore Bhagat, 27, and her nephew, Niranjan Oraon, 28, all residents of Ronheya-Kolsimri village. Kishore and Niranjan died on the spot while Bhagtain succumbed to her injuries while being shifted to Sadar hospital, police said.

Injuries and legal action

Three occupants of the truck — Vinat Munda, Vikas Minj and Tinku Ram, all aged between 30 and 40 years — sustained injuries. Kuru police station officer in-charge, Ajit Kumar, said, “We have seized both vehicles. Complaint has been lodged by the relatives of the deceased. The truck driver will be held soon.”

The incident highlights the dangers on the Kuru-Ranchi main road, which has seen multiple accidents in recent months. Local residents have demanded better road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic rules. Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
