Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has called for adopting the ideology of Satguru Ram Singh to transform Punjab into a drug-free state. Speaking during his first visit to Sri Bhaini Sahib, the Governor paid obeisance and addressed a religious gathering known as a “Gurmat Samagam”.
Emphasis on Satguru Ram Singh's Principles
Kataria highlighted that the roots of India's freedom struggle were laid by Satguru Ram Singh, who initiated a movement of non-cooperation against British rule. He provided religious, social and political direction to society. The Governor stressed that Satguru Ram Singh's principles of truth, non-violence and civil resistance should serve as the foundation for social reform, just as they did during the freedom struggle.
Remembering the Kuka Sikhs
Recalling the sacrifices of the Kuka Sikhs, Kataria said the brave revolutionaries fought fearlessly against British rule and laid down their lives. He added that the contribution of Namdhari Sikhs can never be forgotten. Satguru Ram Singh followed the path of non-violence shown by the Sikh Gurus and led a complete boycott of British rule and its privileges.
Call for Spiritual and Social Uplifting
Describing the Namdhari sect as a symbol of simplicity, truthfulness and humility, the Governor urged people to follow the path shown by the Gurus for spiritual and social uplifting. During the visit, the Governor also visited the historic Ram Mandir within Sri Bhaini Sahib, where the Kuka movement against British rule began in 1857. He viewed a photo exhibition displayed at the site.
Governor Kataria's call comes amid ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse in Punjab. He emphasised that adopting Satguru Ram Singh's ideology can inspire collective action against the drug menace and foster a society based on moral values. The Governor's visit to Sri Bhaini Sahib marks a significant step in promoting the teachings of the Namdhari sect and their relevance in contemporary social issues.
