Kanpur's Ananya Awasthi Triumphs in District Under-15 Chess Championship
In a display of strategic brilliance, Ananya Awasthi from Virendra Swarup Education Centre emerged victorious at the district under-15 chess championship held at Vedic Dharm Sabha in Kanpur on Friday. The event showcased the rising talent in the city's chess circuit, with participants competing fiercely for top honors.
Top Finishers and Qualifiers
The championship saw impressive performances from several young players. Swastika Kumar of Mariyampur secured the second position, while Adya Mishra from BNSD Shiksha Niketan claimed third place. V Kanisha of Virendra Swarup, Jajmau, finished fourth, rounding out the top contenders. All four girls have earned the prestigious opportunity to represent Kanpur in the upcoming UP State Chess Championship, highlighting their potential on a larger stage.
Participation and Youth Involvement
A total of 17 girls participated in the trial championship, demonstrating growing interest in chess among young females in the region. Notably, the youngest participant was five-year-old Akshita Tiwari, underscoring the event's inclusivity and the early development of chess skills. This diverse age range reflects the championship's role in nurturing talent from a young age.
Parallel Cricket Trials in Kanpur
In related sports news, the Kanpur Cricket Association conducted under-16 trials at KDMA School in Barra on Friday, attracting 160 aspirants. The trials are part of a selection process to identify promising cricketers from the area. Players from Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, and Kannauj will undergo further testing on Saturday, emphasizing the active sports culture in and around Kanpur.
