Boy, 5, dies after falling into farm well in Chengalpet

A tragic incident occurred in Chengalpet district on Tuesday morning when a five-year-old boy, searching for his mother, fell into a farm well and died. The child was identified as Yuvaraj, a UKG student at a panchayat union middle school from Chettipunniyam village. He was the son of Lingam, 30, a driver, and his wife, who was grazing goats in nearby fields at the time of the accident.

Since school was closed for summer vacation, Yuvaraj had gone out to play with other children. After his friends returned home, he set out in search of his mother. While walking, he slipped on the slushy sand around the well and fell in. Locals began a search and noticed one of his toys floating in the well, which alerted them. They quickly gathered and one villager jumped into the well to rescue the boy. He was pulled out and rushed to the government medical college and hospital in Chengalpet, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police reported that the sand around the well was slushy and likely contributed to the accident. Chengalpet taluk police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. The family is in deep shock, and the community mourns the loss of the young child.
