The Kansas City Chiefs' star player, Rashee Rice, has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail until June 16 after violating his probation related to a multi-vehicle crash in 2024 that left multiple people injured. The wide receiver also tested positive for THC, adding to his legal troubles.
Health Concerns Before Jail
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 25-year-old underwent surgery just a week before reporting to jail to remove loose debris in his right knee that was causing inflammation. The procedure was performed in Dallas, and Rice is expected to be sidelined for two months, impacting his preparation for the upcoming season.
The Kansas City Chiefs have maintained distance from addressing the situation, which has sparked outrage among fans. One fan posted on X, criticizing the coaching staff for trusting Rice for the 2026 season, calling the roster management around Patrick Mahomes "absolute incompetence." Another fan questioned the timing of the surgery, suggesting Rice may have planned to miss offseason activities. A third fan remarked that Mahomes could have made Rice one of the all-time greats, but instead he made poor decisions. Another fan joked that serving jail time while already injured is a "genius use of your time." Rice's team and family have not issued official statements.
Domestic Violence Allegations
In addition to the probation violation, Rice faces domestic violence allegations from his ex-partner and mother of his children, who recently went public with the claims. The Chiefs acknowledged awareness of the charges, but Rice avoided suspension.
