A Generous Gesture Worth $1.7 Million

A few days ago, the NBA legend and his wife announced through their charity, Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation, that a remarkable $1.7 million had been raised for underprivileged children in Oakland. The funds were generated through a unique initiative involving Curry's sneakers.

The foundation shared a heartfelt post on social media, stating: "$1.7 million for Oakland's kids. This season, our co-founder Stephen Curry turned his sneaker free agency into something bigger than basketball — wearing a different pair in nearly every game, each choice intentional, each a nod to the history of the game."

The post continued: "Stephen put more than 70 of these iconic sneakers up for auction at @Sotheby’s New York."

It further added: "400 bidders, nearly 30 countries, 2,350 bids, and every single dollar going directly to Eat. Learn. Play., resulting in more healthy meals, books, literacy support, safe places to play, and youth sports for tens of thousands of kids across Oakland."

Why Did Stephen Curry Auction His Sneakers?

Over the past few months, Stephen Curry parted ways with Under Armour, leading him to wear sneakers from various brands in each game. In a move that surprised fans, the four-time NBA champion decided to auction the sneakers he wore during this period. The proceeds from the auction were directed to his foundation, which focuses on improving the lives of children in Oakland.

Curry's foundation, Eat. Learn. Play., has become a well-known entity in Oakland, dedicated to providing nutritious meals and quality education to children from underprivileged families.
