Dan Ticktum remains one of the most impressive yet unpredictable drivers in Formula E this season. The Cupra Kiro driver secured back-to-back pole positions in Monaco on both days of the race weekend but could not convert them into points or a podium finish, instead landing himself in trouble for reckless racing. Cupra Kiro team principal Russell O'Hagan has confirmed that the team has given Ticktum a second official warning over the incident.
Cupra Kiro on What Lies Behind Dan Ticktum's Frustration
On the first day of the Monaco E-Prix last month, Dan Ticktum collided with Antonio Felix da Costa in Round 9, as a result of which his third-place finish was handed to his own team-mate, Pepe Marti. However, in an interview, he shrugged off any blame, claiming he was not at fault. Cupra Kiro team principal Russell O'Hagan confirmed that Ticktum was given a second formal reprimand after receiving his first following the Mexico City E-Prix.
Opening up about Ticktum's frustration, O'Hagan said, as quoted by RacingNews365: "If you look across the opening rounds, there have been several situations where circumstances outside of his control have prevented likely strong results, and based on his outright pace, he could have double to triple the points he currently does."
"Naturally, with that in mind, frustration can build over time, particularly for a driver like Dan, and in an environment as variable and competitive as Formula E," he added.
Cupra Kiro on How They Are Working with Dan Ticktum
Cupra Kiro team principal Russell O'Hagan said that, as a team, they have to "redefine our approach, targets and metrics" to turn Ticktum's talent into points. Listing another priority, he said, "The second point is to ensure Dan's frustrations and energy are harnessed constructively. We understand them, but as a team, we expect everyone to uphold the standards of professionalism, respect and teamwork that are fundamental to how we operate and perform best as an organisation."
Not running out of praise for the Briton, O'Hagan added, "What is equally important to say is that we also recognise our responsibility as a team to give Dan the platform and support he needs to deliver at his best, because there have been a number of occasions this season where we should have done better for him."
Ticktum currently sits 14th in the Formula E Drivers' Standings with 28 points. He has come close to a podium on several occasions but has been unable to capitalise on his performances.
