The second birthday of two sub-adult lionesses, Aashi and Jaya, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Etawah Safari Park on Monday. The lionesses were born in 2024 from the mating of lioness Neerja and Kanha. The celebration included cutting a cake in their honor.
Birth and Early Challenges
According to Lion Safari director Anil Patel, the three cubs were born on May 31 and June 1, 2024. However, lioness Neerja did not care for her cubs, prompting the Safari Park keepers, Ajay and Asif, to hand-rear them. Unfortunately, one cub died prematurely on the 14th day. The remaining two cubs survived and grew into healthy sub-adults. They are now frolicking in the breeding centre along with one brother and two sisters.
Recovery of Lion Vishwa
In another development, lion Vishwa, born on August 10, 2022 at Etawah Safari Park, had been unwell for the past month. After continuous treatment for nearly a month, he has recovered fully. He is now consuming his full diet and adequate amounts of water, and is fully active.
The Safari Park officials expressed joy over the healthy growth of the lionesses and the recovery of Vishwa. The event highlighted the dedicated efforts of the keepers in ensuring the well-being of the animals.
