2026 Mexico City E-Prix Sets New Sustainability & Community Impact Benchmarks
Formula E's 2026 Mexico City Race Boosts Sustainability & Community

The upcoming 2026 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix, scheduled for January 9 and 10, is poised to be more than just a high-octane motorsport event. It is setting a powerful example by integrating ambitious environmental and social initiatives, aiming to accelerate sustainable human progress alongside the on-track action.

Green Racing: A Core Commitment

At the heart of the event's environmental strategy is a commitment to clean energy. The entire circuit will operate using 100 per cent renewable energy, significantly powered by Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO). This innovative fuel choice is expected to slash carbon emissions by an impressive 90 per cent compared to conventional alternatives.

Beyond the track, Formula E is tackling its logistical footprint for Season 12. The championship has optimized its freight operations, successfully reducing air freight from three planes to two and enhancing sea freight solutions. This systematic approach aims to substantially cut down CO₂ emissions associated with moving equipment globally.

Empowering Communities in Mexico

The social impact of the race is channeled through the Better Futures Fund. A significant donation of €25,000 will be granted to the Mexico-based organization El Caracol. This funding will support crucial programs focused on violence prevention, digital safety, and creating alternative learning pathways for children and families through 'La Escuela de las Mariposas', aiding their reintegration into formal education.

Formula E is also continuing its valuable collaboration with Con Ganas de Vivir, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. To inspire the next generation, the event will engage with local STEM programs Technolochicas and TechnoReady, hosting career talks during race week.

FIA Girls on Track: Inspiring Young Women

A standout initiative is the FIA Girls on Track program. During the race week, up to 120 young women will participate in a series of empowering activities. The agenda includes interactive workshops, gaming sessions, insightful career talks, and the exclusive experience of a pit lane walk, all designed to spark interest in motorsport, engineering, and related technical fields.

In partnership with the ASN (National Sporting Authority), the program is also distributing 240 complimentary race-day tickets to participants. An additional 800 tickets have been offered to candidates who were not selected, ensuring wider access and inspiration.

An Immersive Experience for Locals

The event's Community Tour is designed to bring the excitement of Formula E directly to the people. It will welcome up to 400 local participants, including university students, for a full day at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The experience features a guided pit lane walk, access to the interactive gaming arena, and prime viewing of the first Free Practice session, offering an unforgettable behind-the-scenes look at world-class electric racing.

Through these multifaceted efforts in renewable energy, waste management, and community investment, the 2026 Mexico City E-Prix is establishing a comprehensive blueprint for how major sporting events can serve as catalysts for lasting positive change, both for the planet and its people.
