From 2019 through 2021, Urshela became one of the Yankees' most reliable infielders. During that stretch, he played 291 games and recorded 296 hits, 41 home runs, 153 RBIs, a .292 batting average, and an .815 OPS. His strong defense and calm demeanor also made him a fan favorite in the Bronx.
In his Instagram statement, Urshela opened up about how emotional the decision was for him.

Urshela later shared a heartfelt message for his children, writing, "Dad will no longer have to spend so much time away from home. You have no idea how happy I am to finally spend more time with you."
Soon after the post went live, tributes started pouring in. The Yankees replied, "Congratulations on a fantastic career, Gio!! Wishing you all the best in this next chapter." Colombian singer J Balvin also commented with a simple message: "Respect."
