A young student from Gorakhpur has brought international recognition to India through his outstanding performance at a prestigious global sports event. Sunny Singh, an MA Sociology student at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University, achieved remarkable success at the 2025 Senior World Kickboxing Championship held in Abu Dhabi.
Global Achievement Against Tough Competition
The championship took place from November 21 to 30, 2025 in Abu Dhabi, where Sunny Singh competed against some of the world's most skilled kickboxing athletes. According to the DDUGU Media Cell, the young athlete from Gaori Manglapur in Khora Bazar secured an impressive 9th position globally, outperforming contenders from established sporting nations like Switzerland and Ireland.
University Pride and Official Recognition
The university community has expressed tremendous pride in Singh's accomplishment. University Vice-Chancellor Prof Poonam Tandon personally congratulated the student, describing the moment as one of immense pride for the entire institution. "We are extremely proud that one of our students has excelled on the world stage," she stated.
Prof Tandon also expressed confidence in Singh's future performances, adding, "We are confident that his performance in the upcoming Indian International Cup 2026 and Senior Asian Kickboxing Championship 2026 will be even more impressive."
