AM Green India Golf Premier League Officially Launches with Ten Franchises
The AM Green India Golf Premier League (IGPL) made its grand debut in New Delhi on Thursday, announcing the squads for its ten franchises. This marks a significant milestone in Indian sports, introducing a team-based format to professional golf.
League Structure and Inaugural Season Details
The inaugural season of the IGPL is set to feature a total of 15 events. Out of these, ten will be hosted across the home cities of the franchises, while five events are scheduled to take place overseas, adding an international flair to the competition.
The ten franchises participating in the league are:
- Atri Mumbai GC
- Auro Realty Goa GC
- Green Fuels Vizag GC
- Flying Man Kolkata GC
- Golf Konnekt Bengaluru
- Honer Homes Gurugram
- Krishna Punjab GC
- Phoenix Hyderabad GC
- RVR Delhi GC
- Vimtra Chennai GC
Team Format and Player Dynamics
Each franchise will consist of four players, who will compete not only for individual honors but also as part of their teams. The league has introduced a dynamic format aimed at increasing the pace and excitement of the game.
Co-founder Yuvraj Singh emphasized this aspect, stating, "The team component would inject pace into the game." This innovative approach is expected to attract a broader audience and enhance viewer engagement.
Financial Incentives and Growth Prospects
Players will vie for individual prizes from a substantial pool of Rs 1.5 crore, providing significant financial incentives. This move underscores the league's commitment to promoting golf as a lucrative sport in India.
Dhiraj Jain, owner of the Bengaluru franchise, highlighted the growing appeal of golf, saying, "Golf in India is becoming increasingly lucrative." His remarks reflect the positive sentiment surrounding the sport's potential for growth and commercial success.
