Indian Women's Archery Team Triumphs Over Turkiye to Reach World Cup Final
In a stunning display of precision and skill, the Indian women's compound archery team has secured a spot in the finals of the Puebla 2026 Archery World Cup stage 1, currently underway in Mexico. The top-seeded Indian squad, featuring the formidable trio of Madhura Dhamangaonkar, Pragati, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, outclassed Turkiye with a decisive score of 233-230, guaranteeing India a medal in this prestigious international event.
Madhura Dhamangaonkar Leads the Charge
Madhura Dhamangaonkar, an ace archer from Amravati, has once again proven her mettle on the global stage. As a triple medalist from last year's Shanghai World Cup stage 2, Madhura played a pivotal role in steering the Indian team into the finals. Her leadership and experience were instrumental in the team's convincing victory over Turkiye, showcasing India's growing dominance in compound archery.
Teaming up with Pragati, who shot an impressive 694 in the qualification rounds, and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, who scored 691, the Indian women's team demonstrated exceptional coordination and focus. Their collective performance has set the stage for an exciting final showdown against the United States, scheduled for April 11.
USA Advances to Face India in the Final
On the other side of the bracket, the United States team, comprising Paige Pearce, Alexis Ruiz, and Olivia Dean, secured their place in the finals by narrowly defeating hosts Mexico with a score of 230-229 in the semifinals. This victory denied Mexico a home final, but the Mexican team managed to clinch the bronze medal by beating Turkiye 233-230 in the subsequent match.
Individual Successes for Indian Archers
Beyond the team event, Madhura Dhamangaonkar continued to shine in the individual rounds. She defeated Grace Chappel of the United Kingdom with a score of 143-141 in the first individual round. Meanwhile, her teammates Pragati and Jyothi Vennam received byes, advancing directly to the next stage.
In another notable individual performance, Aditi Swami triumphed over last year's world championship silver medalist, Sofia Paiz of El Salvador, with a score of 146-138, securing her advancement into the second round of the individual competition.
Setback for Indian Men's Compound Team
In contrast to the women's success, the Indian men's compound archery team faced disappointment in the quarterfinals. Despite being the top-seeded team, comprising Ojas Deotale, Abhishek Verma, and Sahil Jadhav, they were defeated by the 9th-seeded hosts Mexico with a close score of 232-234. This loss highlights the competitive nature of the tournament and the challenges faced by even the highest-ranked teams.
The Puebla 2026 Archery World Cup stage 1 continues to be a platform for showcasing talent and determination, with India's women's team now poised for a historic final against the USA. As the archery community watches closely, all eyes will be on April 11 for what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to this event.
