Jaipur's Pink City continues to produce talented squash players, with Divyanshi Jain winning a bronze medal at the 33rd Li-Ning Asian Junior Squash Championship held in China. Another Jaipur player, Dhairya Gogia, finished 5th after losing in the quarterfinals.
Indian Team Performance
Indian team coach Surbhi Misra, also from Jaipur, expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, noting that India won a total of eight medals: one gold, three silver, and four bronze. This marks an improvement from the previous Asian Championship held in Korea, where India had secured seven medals.
Divyanshi Jain's Bronze Medal
Divyanshi Jain lost to Japan's Rio Yoshino in the Girls' U-13 semifinal with a close scoreline of 8-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-4, 12-10. In the other semifinal, Indian player Shanaya Parasrampuria was defeated by Singapore's Karina Shashi Kumar 11-5, 11-6, 13-11. Both Divyanshi and Shanaya had to settle for bronze medals.
Dhairya Gogia's Campaign
Dhairya Gogia caused a major upset in the first round by beating the 5th seed Teseka Chun of Hong Kong 12-10, 10-12, 11-7, 11-7. However, his run ended in the quarterfinals where India's Amarya Bajaj defeated him 11-9, 11-9, 11-4, resulting in a 5th place finish.
Other Indian Medalists
Coach Surbhi Misra also highlighted other medal winners for India. Aryaveer Diwan won gold in the Boys' U-19 category. Silver medals were won by Amarya Bajaj in Boys' U-13, Anika Dubey in Girls' U-17, and Shiven Agrawal in Boys' U-17. Bronze medals were awarded to Lokesh in Boys' U-17 and Abhyuday Arora in Boys' U-13.
The championship showcased the growing strength of Indian squash at the junior level, with players from Jaipur playing a significant role in the team's success.
