The couple faced significant tests early on, most notably a 750-mile separation when Brunson attended Villanova University in Pennsylvania while Marks remained in Illinois for her studies. This long-distance phase demanded mutual understanding and sacrifice. "We both just understood the other person," Marks explained. "Jalen didn't drink in college and he was very busy traveling and I was just in the library studying because I needed my grades to be high in order to go to PT school."
Despite busy schedules filled with friends, classes, and games, they maintained their connection through constant communication. "Of course, we had other friends. We were constantly surrounded and hanging out with people, but we would see each other on FaceTime constantly - I feel so bad for my roommates looking back at it - and he was on my computer 24/7," she added.

In September 2022, Brunson returned to the very high school gym where they first met to propose, bringing their relationship full circle. They married less than a year later in Chicago, culminating a decade-long courtship that never felt rushed.
