NFL Draft 2026: Kenyon Sadiq Emerges as Coveted Tight End Prospect

ESPN NFL analyst Matt Miller has identified Oregon Ducks tight end Kenyon Sadiq as a standout talent for the 2026 NFL Draft, projecting him as a potential first-round pick. In a recent analysis, Miller selected Sadiq for the Baltimore Ravens with the 14th overall pick, highlighting his potential to bolster the team's offense following the departure of key players.

Baltimore Ravens' Tight End Dilemma

The Ravens face a significant gap at tight end after Isaiah Likely's move to the New York Giants, where he reunites with former Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh. This departure leaves veteran Mark Andrews as the primary option, but at 31 years old, his long-term role is uncertain. The offseason signing of Durham Smythe, who is similarly aged, does little to address the need for youthful dynamism.

Miller describes Sadiq as the best tight end in his draft class, praising him as an "elite mover with the ball in his hands" and noting his touchdown production in college. He suggests Sadiq could replicate the red-zone threat role that Likely filled for Baltimore over the past two seasons, offering quarterback Lamar Jackson a reliable new target.

How Sadiq Fits into the Ravens' System

Comparing Sadiq to Andrews reveals distinct advantages for the rookie. Andrews primarily operates as an in-line tight end, while Sadiq demonstrated superior yards-per-catch ability at Oregon, recording between 10.0 and 12.1 yards per reception in 2025 compared to Andrews' 8.8 yards that season. According to ClutchPoints' Troy Finnegan, Sadiq could initially serve as the TE2 behind Andrews, allowing him to develop without immediate pressure. This setup would leverage Andrews' experience to mentor Sadiq, providing a smooth transition into the NFL.

New York Jets Enter the Fray

However, the Ravens are not alone in their interest. NYJETS.COM's Jack Bell reports that the New York Jets, led by quarterback Geno Smith, are also targeting Sadiq to supercharge their offense. Bell cites Draft Analyst Lance Zierlein's assessment, which positions Sadiq as a versatile weapon capable of playing as a big slot or tight end.

Sadiq's athletic credentials are impressive: standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 241 pounds, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine, breaking the previous record of 4.40 seconds held jointly by Vernon Davis (2006) and Dorin Dickerson (2010). His combination of size and speed makes him a mismatch for defenders, with analysts noting he is "too big for a safety" and would have a physical advantage over lighter linebackers.

Jets' Draft Strategy and Tight End Roster

Jets general manager Darren Mougey holds multiple draft picks, including No. 2 and No. 16 in the first round and No. 33 in the second round, and is open to blockbuster trades to secure talent. Bell speculates that if top wide receivers like Ohio State's Carnell Tate, Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson, and USC's Makai Lemon are off the board early, Sadiq could become a prime target for New York.

The Jets' current tight end roster includes Mason Taylor (21 years old), Jeremy Ruckert (25), and Jelani Woods (27). Taylor, son of Miami Dolphins legend Jason Taylor, was a second-round pick last year and recorded 44 receptions for 369 yards and one touchdown in 13 games. Ruckert, a 2022 draft pick, had 23 receptions for 179 yards and one touchdown in 17 games last season, while Woods, also from the 2022 class, managed only one reception for four yards in four games after joining from the Indianapolis Colts.

ESPN's Bill Barnell suggests the Jets have ample draft capital to pursue Sadiq or other top prospects, emphasizing the need to upgrade their tight end situation. With both the Ravens and Jets vying for his talents, the decision of whether Sadiq lands with Lamar Jackson's Ravens or Geno Smith's Jets remains uncertain, adding intrigue to the upcoming draft.
