"Leader, Legend, Little" – this was the tifo displayed by fans at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal captain Kim Little made her 400th club appearance in a Women's Super League (WSL) match against Tottenham Hotspur last month. It was a fitting tribute to her remarkable 18-year journey with the London club, which culminated in lifting the UEFA Women's Champions League (UWCL) title last season, one of the most successful campaigns in Arsenal women's history.
Little Reflects on Her Journey and the Growth of Women's Football
Reflecting on her career, Little said during a virtual media interaction from London: "My journey started in that first spell in 2008, with a much smaller fan base than we do now. And my career has spanned this incredible growth of the women's game. The average attendance is increasing every year and so are those season ticket holders." While Arsenal handed Manchester City the WSL title on Wednesday with a draw against Brighton, the Gunners are set to finish in the top four of the WSL and have reached the semifinals of the UWCL.
Little's Advice for Indian Women's Football
Little was imperious in last season's UWCL final, holding her own against a stellar Barcelona midfield. Hence, there could be no better player to offer insights on the way forward for Indian women's football. She emphasized: "The one thing will be to not mimic but connect with the broader women's game across the globe. It's useful to connect with countries like the UK, France, Germany, make connections and networks." (Fans can watch WSL exclusively on FanCode)
