KIUG 2025: Athletes Light Up Final Day with New Meet Records

The final day of athletics at the Khelo India University Games 2025 (KIUG) in Bhubaneswar witnessed a spectacular display of speed and power, as several athletes etched their names into the record books. The Kalinga Stadium roared as new meet records were established in both track and field events, highlighting the rising standard of university-level sports in India.

Record-Breaking Performances Dominate the Track

The spotlight shone brightly on Samardeep Singh of Guru Nanak Dev University. In a breathtaking display of endurance, Singh obliterated the men's 1500m meet record. He stopped the clock at an impressive 3:47.67, slicing a significant margin off the previous benchmark. This performance not only secured him the gold medal but also announced his arrival as a formidable middle-distance runner on the national stage.

Not to be outdone, the women's 1500m event saw its own historic moment. Isha Chander from Jain University delivered a commanding run, crossing the finish line in 4:27.47. Her effort was enough to set a new KIUG meet record, showcasing her dominance in the event and adding another gold to her university's tally.

KIIT's Relay Team Brings the House Down

The most electrifying moment of the day, however, belonged to the host university's quartet. The men's 4x400m relay team from KIIT University turned the stadium into a cauldron of noise with a stunning performance. The team, comprising Prakash, Aniket, Anil, and Rohit, combined flawless baton exchanges with raw speed to blaze around the track.

Their collective effort resulted in a stunning new meet record time of 3:10.87. This victory was particularly sweet for the home crowd, as KIIT University celebrated a gold medal won in front of their supporters, capping off their athletics campaign on a monumental high.

Other Notable Highlights from the Final Day

While the record-breakers grabbed headlines, other athletes also delivered podium-worthy performances. In the men's high jump, Bharat Singh of Maharshi Dayanand University claimed the top spot with a best leap of 2.11 meters. The women's triple jump was won by Sharvari Parulekar from Savitribai Phule Pune University, who recorded a distance of 12.83 meters.

The field events concluded with the men's javelin throw, where Rohit Kumar of Chandigarh University emerged victorious. His winning throw measured 72.25 meters, demonstrating remarkable power and technique.
