A significant fire broke out at a mattress manufacturing factory in Kanjikode, Palakkad, on Thursday afternoon, resulting in extensive damage to goods stored inside the unit. The incident occurred around 3 PM at the factory located in Koyyamarakkad, Kanjikode.
Fire Details and Response
According to factory owner Ashokan, cotton and sponge materials intended for mattress production were destroyed in the blaze. Fire and rescue personnel reported that preliminary assessments indicate sparks from welding work being carried out on the upper floor may have ignited the fire.
Evacuation and Safety
Several workers were present inside the factory when the fire started. However, they were evacuated in time, preventing any major accident, fire officials confirmed. The rescue operation was led by Kanjikode fire station officer T R Rakesh, along with personnel from the department.
Fire Control
The fire was brought under control after nearly two hours of continuous effort by the fire brigade. The quick response and evacuation ensured no casualties were reported.
